چکیده

We investigated small-scale hydraulic power actuation systems using a system level analysis, where smallscale refers to systems generating 10 to 100 Watts output power, to determine whether the high power density advantage of hydraulics holds at small sizes. Hydraulic actuator system power density was analyzed with simple physics models and compared to an equivalent electromechanical system comprised of off-the-shelf components. Calculation results revealed that high operating pressures are needed for small-scale hydraulics to be lighter than the equivalent electromechanical system. The analysis was limited to the actuator and conduit as those are the components that must be located on the mechanism. A complete comparison should add the weight and efficiency of the power supply.

Switching sliding mode force tracking control of piezoelectric-hydraulic pump-based friction element actuation systems for automotive transmissions

In this study, a nonlinear sliding-mode controller is designed for force tracking of a piezoelectric-hydraulic pump (PHP)-based actuation system, which is developed to replace the current electro-hydraulic actuation systems for automatic transmission (AT) friction elements, such as band brakes or clutches. By utilizing the PHP, one can eliminate the various hydraulic components (oil pump, regul...

Flow-Force Analysis in a Hydraulic Sliding-Spool Valve

Original scientific paper The necessary forces for the control of a hydraulic sliding-spool valve are normally determined by the stationary axial momentum forces of the oil flow through a valve. These forces increase with an increase in the volume flow and the pressure difference. Because of the limited actuating-force potential of normal electromechanical actuators, the direct actuation of con...

Modelling of Flight Control Hydraulic Actuators Considering Real System Effects

The study investigates the effects of servo valve nonlinearity, actuation compliance and friction related nonlinearity on the dynamics of a flight control surface, during its deployment through an electro-hydraulic actuation system. Starting from the pilot command, a realistic model of the electro-hydraulic actuation system is evolved, which includes the command lags, servo valve nonlinearity, ...

Mechanical Development of an Actuation System for a Parabolic Solar Trough

This thesis documents my personal contribution to the development of a hydraulic-based actuation system for a solar trough collector. The goal of this project was to design the actuation system using hydraulic actuators for a four meter solar collector prototype in Pittsfield, New Hampshire. After considering several hydraulic system architectures and conducting in-depth analysis into two of th...

Characterization of Magnetic Shape Memory Alloys (MSMA) oriented to periodic actuation

This paper presents a study of Magnetic Shape Memory Alloy (MSMA) performances oriented to the design of a hydraulic pump. Its main properties, high strain and force under small response time requirement, have been recently improved via acoustic assistance by means of piezoelectric actuation. This research encloses a novel study in MSMA actuation technology regarding force and power mechanical ...
